Enjoy
the 21st Annual Flimp Festival at the Museum of Fine Arts
Saturday, May 1, 10 AM to 2 PM
Montgomery, AL – Enjoy one of Montgomery’s favorite family traditions on
Saturday, May 1 at the 21st Annual Flimp Festival held at the
Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts.
This year, with new and exciting exhibits, Flimp Festival will showcase the
artwork of famed local artist, Charlie “The Tinman” Lucas. Although there will
be new activities, many of the old favorites will still be present: artists,
art making, chalk art, entertainment, food, and many other family activities.
Those activities will include:
Art Making
Visit the art studios and make unique works of art such as Mad Hatter creations
decorated with pom-poms and feathers, glass bead necklaces, scratch art, and
paper mosaics. Guests will also make “funky junk” art with the help of the
Clean City Commission.
Artists in Action
Artists making art. That’s what Artists in Action is all about! See art created
by professional artists such as basket-weaving, quilt-making, mosaics,
woodcarving, painting, and the art of Charlie Lucas, then try your hand at
making something special related to each artist’s work. Discover the artist in
YOU!
Children’s
Games
Don’t
miss our assortment of outdoor, old-fashioned yard games featured on the side
lawn of the Museum’s Lowder Gallery.
Flimp Treasure Hunt
Join the exciting “Discover the Treasure” hunt held in the Rotunda. This event
invites children and adults to find the correct answers to clues about the
artwork in the Museum galleries. Win fabulous prizes donated by area merchants.
Flimp Chalk
Put your pastels to the pavement and create chalk masterpieces in the Museum
parking lot. Student artists and adults are invited to transform the street
into a chalk gallery. First, second, and third place ribbons and prizes will be
awarded for each of the following four categories: elementary school (1st-5th),
middle school (6th-8th), high school (9th-12th), and adult. The Museum provides
chalk, parking lot space, and event organization. Artists provide inspiring
compositions. To participate, call the Education Department at 334.240.4365 for an application.
Flimp Music
Flimp 2010 will feature Dave Holland, an artist with a world-beat sound who
will offer the opportunity to participate. This unique musician will present
several musical sets throughout the day, including interactive music circles,
drums from around the world and an educational multi-cultural performance with a
folk art flair. Visitors can enjoy the theatrical presentation while
participating in one of the interactive performances or as lively background
music while partaking in the art-making projects.
Lunch during FLIMP
For patrons interested in lunch during FLIMP, Café M will be open from 11 a.m.
to 2 p.m.
