MMFA Education Department Mission


Our mission is to engage visitors with works of art, encouraging them to look more closely and to understand the works they are viewing in a more thoughtful manner. We aspire to foster a relationship between the artworks and the viewer that will inspire a personal, insightful experience.

We would like to bring people into the world of the work of art through explorations that actively engage them in:

  • perception
  • reflection
  • discussion
  • interpretation

This approach leads visitors to forge connections between their everyday lives and the greater human experience. In addition, they gain a deeper awareness of themselves and their particular place in the world. We acknowledge that visitors inherently have wisdom and knowledge, which they bring to the Museum. As Museum educators, it is our goal to tap into this inner knowledge so that they may deepen their experiences of the works of art.
