WELCOME

THE LESSONS IN THIS BOOK WERE DEVELOPED FOR YOU!
They are the result of two years’ work with and by students (ages 8-15) in five Montgomery Public Schools: Bellingrath Junior High School, Houston Hill Microsociety Magnet Junior High School, McIntyre Middle School, Carver Elementary Arts School and Davis Elementary School. Through a generous grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, Art in the Afternoon classes were offered weekly after school by the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts from September 1999 through December 2001. Each lesson, based on art in the Museum’s permanent collection, offers one method (and certainly not the only one possible) of interpretation. This book is dedicated to the young artists, their bright and bold work, and YOU. You can participate too — by learning and experimenting with new techniques and becoming familiar with the art in the Museum. Use these lessons as a springboard to your creative spirit.
